National Competitions over for another year
I have just caught up on
sleep after another fantastic national compeitions in the heart of
Waiarapa country. The 60th nats were held in Claireville, and all
reports have been positive. Was great to re-aquaint with old mates
from last year. I competed in Advanced Pattern, Sportsman IMAC and
the indoor shootout gaining 4th, 6th and 3rd place respectivley. Unfortunatley
this year I ran out of both talent and airframe, I was not able to
get the humble Fliton Edge around the sequences as well as I had hoped,
the increasing windspeed in the later IMAC rounds would also see my
scores suffer against the larger planes which found it easier to cut
through the disturbed air. So this calls for a little (a lot) of scrimping
and saving for a new model for the next nationals, $4K should hopefully
be enough for a nice second hand model, something like a Hundy Hundy
(100cc, 100") would be ideal. I figure I'll take it in small
steps, putting the $20 away rather than buying that box of beer (which
I won't appreciate in the morning anyway)
Highlights for me were
watching Frazer Briggs fly the Kiwi F3P the way it is meant to in
the indoor competition, and hearing his positive comments on the design.
Also the aggregate free flight, which is a fantastic spectator event,
Alex Hewson and myself plan to compete next year.
The 61st nationals are
to be held in Balclutha, South Otago. There was alot of talk going
round at Claireville about the lack of competitors and thus competition
that will show up - many feel it will be a waste of time. The South
Island needs support here guys, make the trip. It's a fantastic way
to meet and talk with like minded modellers, the competitions are
fun and fair, the people are social, the politics are minimal and
the memories are forever. If you are in the slightest considering
it, I URGE you to go - compete in something for the fun and the experience,
even if you know you wont win. Most guys are there with that very
mindset. As the saying goes, the more the merrier, and that could
not be more true at the National Competitions
Until next time
Sarge.
